Biographie
Lillian Allen is a multi-talented poet, spoken word performer, playwright, and educator. Lillian’s pairing of poetry with music won her two Juno awards for the albums Revolutionary Tea Party and Conditions Critical. Her debut book of poetry, Rhythm An’ Hardtimes was a Canadian bestseller, and her other books of poetry Psychic Unrest, and Women Do This Everyday won widespread critical acclaim. Lillian also writes for young people and has produced multiple plays. Internationally recognized as a godmother of dub lyricism, rap, and spoken word poetry, Lillian embedded the feminist voice in the literary dub art form. Lillian is a professor of creative writing at Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD University), and has held the post of distinguished Writer-in-Residence at Queen’s University and University of Windsor.
