One of the American Fireside Poets, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) is best known for long, musical pieces like “The Song of Hiawatha” and “Evangeline.” Born in New England, he taught at Harvard, though he retired early to focus on his writing. Longfellow was the most popular American poet of his century.
